Falling for Flats

Stylefile Fashion takes it's cues from several directions; a new Hollywood starlet, the hottest movies, history, a hot new politician (or his wife!) but often the final say of what makes it to stores is what editors, and then buyers endorse. A few weeks ago Andre Leon Talley of Vogue wrote in his daily post about sign of things to come,
Designers with an obsession for towering torture chambers, often poorly designed for the well-being of the foot, must get a reality check. I, for one, am over the mania for the high, high heel. Too many career women look like a herd of fashion beasts, aping one another in impractical shoes . . . Can’t anyone take a cue from First Lady Michelle Obama, in the elegant low-heeled shoes she always wears? A flat would be nice.
While the industry was agape, Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour surprised all by showing up the Hamptons in a chic and ladylike flat slide. All of these vertically challenged styles have got me wondering... will the flat overtake high heels as our most lust-worthy shoe must have?
What do you think?
