Barbara Bui went straight from a literary education into the world of fashion. “I went from wanting to write with words to wanting to write more directly with shapes, colours and lines.”
Of mixed Asian and Western origin, her designs are always imbued with an openness towards different world cultures. It is above all a style which expresses duality, and a form which blends masculine and feminine codes
Her first show was in 1987. Praised by the press and buyers, she had to organize her business in order meet demand; the Barbara Bui fashion house was born. Over the seasons the collections have become increasingly wide-ranging, from tailored to loose; the DNA of the house has been enhanced by valuable features such as embroidery work and as always by the demand for quality and cut, the care taken over finishing touches and the sense of detail.
